Chido Obi could make his senior Man United debut a lot sooner than expected

Chido Obi has hit the ground running since completing his summer move to Manchester United.

Back in July, Manchester United moved quickly to sign Chido Obi from Arsenal with the 17-year-old widely viewed as one of the most exciting young strikers in the country.

Obi turned down higher offers to join United with Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth explaining that his decision was not “financially motivated”.

Instead, Obi saw a clear pathway to the first team at United – something that Arsenal could not promise him despite his remarkable scoring record.

Obi scored a staggering 32 goals for Arsenal in the Under 18 Premier League last season and he has not taken long to settle into life in Manchester.

When Chido Obi is expected to make his senior Man United debut

United fans were blown away by Obi this month after watching his performance against Coventry in the FA Youth Cup.

Just five months into his United career, he is already standing out in a very talented group of Under-18s and he will soon be knocking on Ruben Amorim’s door.

Back in October, transfer expert Graeme Bailey told United in Focus that it was unlikely Obi would be pushed into first-team action this season but it would likely depend on how he performed over the winter.

As we approach the start of 2025 it seems Obi is on track to make his senior debut this season.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, sources have suggested that Chido Obi could make his debut before the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

How Chido Obi has been performing for Man United

In his Under-18s debut, Obi scored a 14-minute hat-trick, with his first goal in a United shirt coming after just 20 seconds against Nottingham Forest.

He also scored twice on his FA Youth Cup debut in a 5-0 win over Coventry City and, after that match, Obi was compared to Ronaldinho.

With Marcus Rashford currently out of the picture in Amorim’s long-term plans at United, Obi is the perfect Rashford replacement and it seems he is ready to step up in the next few months.

Obi has also starred for the Under-21s after picking up an assist for Amir Ibragimov against Rochdale at the start of the month.

It is only a matter of time until he bursts onto the big stage.
