‘World-class’ Man Utd target is now Europe’s best in one key area – £19m move makes total sense

For Manchester United, the goalkeeper position is a priority to strengthen in 2025.

After various big errors in recent weeks, Ruben Amorim cannot be blamed for seeking alternatives.

The current goalkeeping department has cost Manchester United on numerous occasions this season.

  1. Andre Onana
  2. Altay Bayindir
  3. Tom Heaton

Onana has been disappointing in recent weeks, while Bayindir has been no better with his awful performance against Spurs.

Due to this, United are looking to add a few goalkeepers in 2025 in an effort to overhaul the position.

In this case, one of the arrivals must be a goalkeeper already known to United who is becoming “world-class”.

Zion Suzuki is Europe’s best at preventing goals

Zion Suzuki is a goalkeeper who United have been keen on for two years – stretching back to pre-Onana.

Suzuki snubbed a move to Old Trafford, instead opting to bet on himself going from Urawa Reds to Sint-Truiden and this season to Parma.

It is here, in Serie A, that Suzuki has come into his own and is now becoming one of Europe’s leading goalkeepers.

The data proves this as he ranks top for goalkeepers under 25 in Europe’s top seven leagues for prevented goals.

  1. Zion Suzuki – 4.4
  2. Lucas Chevalier – 3.8
  3. Diogo Costa – 3.6
  4. Yahia Fofana – 3.2
  5. Anatoliy Trubin – 2.8

For perspective, United linked Mads Hermansen from Leicester City has prevented minus 1.3 goals, emphasising how special Suzuki is.

Manchester United could replace Andre Onana for less than half the price

With such a talented goalkeeper already known well to the scouting department, a move would make sense. Recent reports have suggested Suzuki could finally move to United in 2025.

CIES values Suzuki at €23m or £19m, which is a bargain for a goalkeeper who seems destined to become one of the world’s best.

This fee is £28m less than the £47m Onana cost United in 2023, which is incredible value.

Suzuki would be our top choice to come in and succeed Onana. This year seems the perfect opportunity to bring him in with the guarantee that he will be given plenty of opportunity to play and take Onana’s place.
