10 August was always the deadline Borussia Dortmund said they’d put in place for the sale of Jadon Sancho.
As per Sky Sports, now that it has passed, they do not expect to lose the England international this summer.
The same report says United won’t give up – but what if they did? The Evening Standard report Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman is their backup of choice if Sancho proved out of reach.
We used WhoScored to compare the Bundesliga widemen, picking out the drawbacks and potential positives of landing Coman instead of Sancho…

The drawbacks
In simple terms, Sancho’s goal and assist numbers from last season’s Bundesliga dwarf Coman’s.
Sancho netted 17 goals – third highest in the Bundesliga – and laid on 16 assists (second highest), compared to Coman’s four and three respectively.
The Bayern man did make eight less starts, but it’s clear Sancho blew him away here.
Sancho has, on average, more shots, passes, key passes and dribbles per game, and is dispossessed less often.

The positives
Coman and Sancho make, on average, the exact same amount of dribbles (2.4) and crosses (0.6) per game, and the difference in their shots per game is just 0.1.
So it’s clear the Frenchman can carry out some of the duties of a modern winger as effectively as Sancho.
Where Coman outstrips Sancho is the trophy cabinet; he has won the league title in all nine of his professional seasons, at the age of 24.
In PSG, Juventus and Bayern, he has played for the dominant sides in three different countries, but it wouldn’t hurt United to bring in a player who knows what it takes to lift silverware on a regular basis.
The Standard raise the prospect of a loan move, and a benefit of that would be freeing up funds to improve other areas of the squad this summer.
That said, Sky Germany reported Bayern’s unwillingness to sell Coman this summer despite the signing of Leroy Sane from Manchester City.
The stats show Coman crosses and dribbles as often as Sancho, but the Englishman offers far greater potency in terms of goals and assists.
