Manchester United’s lack of goal-scoring this season has prompted a new No.9 to head Ruben Amorim’s list of demands.
Despite having two strikers that cost a combined £99m already at his disposal – neither has looked worthy of leading the line under Ruben Amorim.
This problem has seen Manchester United go three games without a goal – undeniably the biggest issue with Amorim’s team this season.

Creativity has been an issue – with Rasmus Hojlund usually clinical when he gets a chance. However, of late United have struggled to create and finish which will be an alarming conundrum for Amorim to solve.
Now, it looks like Jason Wilcox is planning to sign a truly world-class striker for Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee to play second fiddle to.

Viktor Gyokeres kicks off 2025 in style for Sporting Lisbon
One name majorly linked with United is a player who owes his world-class development to Amorim, Viktor Gyokeres.
Amorim has already asked for Gyokeres to be signed – with Europe’s top goal scorer of 2024 his priority addition for 2025.
Now, with Victor Osimhen also emerging as a striking option for United, Gyokeres has reminded Wilcox why he should be top of the list.
Gyokeres – who idolises Zlatan Ibrahimovic – has wasted no time in getting 2025 off to a similarly impressive goalscoring run.
On Friday night, as Sporting Lisbon drew 4-4 with Vitoria, Gyokeres bagged a hat-trick.
All three were excellent striker finishes as he continued to prove he is arguably the very best No.9 right now in the world.
Manchester United should be prioritising Gyokeres despite Victor Osimhen links
Amorim’s history with Gyokeres makes his addition to United one which we cannot help but be excited by. However, the links to Osimhen could raise doubt over whether United will continue to target the phenomenal goal-scoring Swede.
We know Amorim would love the deal, but Gyokeres is also keen on an Old Trafford switch, which points toward a deal – perhaps not at £80m in January but £60m in the summer looks like a bargain valuation.
Both Osimhen and Gyokeres are elite strikers, but with Sporting’s main man, there are fewer negatives than with Osimhen – who is already boasting a huge injury record.
So if only one is arriving, United should ensure it is Gyokeres as opposed to Osimhen – with Amorim surely of similar thinking.
