Data shows that Rasmus Hojlund is destined to become world-class for Man Utd, he just needs one thing

Rasmus Hojlund has been impressive already this season, with two goals scored in his three starts to date.

After a two-month absence, Rasmus Hojlund has finally been back at full function in October – retaking his starting position from Joshua Zirkzee with ease.

Hojlund in just 248 minutes this season has already doubled the goal output of Zirkzee in 526 minutes – leading to the Dutchman only getting cameos since Hojlund reached full fitness.

The two goals Hojlund scored have differed, but in so many ways shown similar traits which bode well for his goal-scoring exploits this season.

His goal against Brentford in particular was excellent as he chipped the ball over Mark Flekken – but behind his strong start to the season, Hojlund’s underlying stats from the past year shows that he is destined to become a world-class striker.

How Rasmus Hojlund is proving his ability at Manchester United

Last season, Hojlund managed to score 16 goals for United – 10 in the Premier League – which was a very impressive tally considering it was his first year in English football.

FA Cup 510

However, what made his 10 league goals even more impressive was that he scored them from just 7.64 expected goals and through being afforded an average of 1.3 shots per game.

This proves how lethal he is when given the chance in front of goal.

According to legendary statistician Statman Dave, Hojlund is among the most lethal young players in Europe when in front of goal. Hojlund ranks as having the highest goals-per-shot ratio of players aged 23 or younger since the start of the 2023/24 season.

  1. Rasmus Hojlund – 0.28
  2. Benjamin Sesko – 0.27
  3. Jude Bellingham – 0.25
  4. Alexander Isak – 0.22
  5. Jonathan David – 0.22

Using this data, we can make some assumptions – with one being that if United can improve in creating chances for Hojlund, his goal-scoring would likely explode.

Hojlund has looked a lot better all around this season, so hopefully this is only the beginning, and he starts scoring once every four shots – while having more than one shot a game.

How many goals will Hojlund score for Manchester United in 2024/25?

Settling on a sure number for how many goals Hojlund will score this season will almost be impossible without just taking an educated guess.

However his stats this season so far, compared with his minutes from last season can give us an indication of whether Hojlund can be United’s top scorer again.

Hojlund has scored every 124 minutes of game time this season – which based on the minutes Hojlund played last season (3008), means with similar game time he could manage roughly 25 goals this season in all competitions – a goal record which would delight fans and his coaches alike.

With finishing like we saw last weekend and hopefully improvements offensively, there is no reason he cannot fulfil this and take another step toward being world-class.
