‘Very talented’ Manchester United transfer target sends emotional message to Ruben Amorim after Sporting exit

Manchester United have finally welcomed Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford more than a week since securing him as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

The international break is here and Manchester United fans have something to shout about.

Sunday’s 3-0 win over Leicester City saw Ruud van Nistelrooy claim a win in his final game as United’s interim boss.

Van Nistelrooy has now left United as the Ruben Amorim era begins at Old Trafford.

Amorim was spotted alongside Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox at Carrington after touching down in Manchester on Monday.

Amorim won his final game in charge of Sporting on Sunday and now gets down to work as the new United boss.

Manchester United target sends message to Ruben Amorim

Amorim will now prepare for his debut as United boss against Ipswich Town once the international break ends, though a number of United players away on international duty.

That means the new United boss will need some time to really get to know his United squad and assess what he needs for the future.

We would be surprised to see United splash the cash in January but some early targets are emerging.

Reports last week suggested that Amorim would love to sign Sporting’s Geovany Quenda amid an £83million release clause in his contract.

United were already interested in Quenda before even appointing Amorim but the 39-year-old’s arrival certainly adds another layer to the interest.

Quenda has now taken to Instagram to post a message to Amorim, as quoted by Record in Portugal.

17-year-old Quenda thanked Amorim for giving him a chance at Sporting and wished him luck in the future – which may yet see Quenda cross paths with him again.

“Thank you for believing in me and letting me play for the club of my heart. Big hug and good luck in the future, mister,” he added.

Quenda would fit into Ineos strategy

United fans want Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres signed but Quenda seems a more likely addition, especially with Amorim clearly a big fan.

Amorim has praised Quenda as ‘very talented’ and believes that he has a big future ahead of him – if he can become a better finisher.

A reunion at Old Trafford would not be a surprise and Quenda’s ability to play as a winger or wing back makes him hugely appealing for Amorim’s 3-4-3 setup.

Ineos have also focused on signings top young talents with Leny Yoro the prime example following his summer move from Lille.

Add in developmental talents such as James Overy, Samuel Lusale, Sekou Kone and Chido Obi-Martin and adding young players is a clear focus for Ineos.

Quenda ticks multiple boxes for United and if anybody is to join United from Sporting in 2025, it may well be the teenager rather than Gyokeres.
