There could yet be a late exit in the transfer window for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

As it stands, Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League opponents Fulham have stepped back from their pursuit of Scott McTominay.

Fulham’s second offer was rejected by Manchester United, with their bid of just over £20 million failing to reach the £30 million asking price.

McTominay’s future remains in question ahead of the transfer deadline, with three new clubs entering the race for his signature.

Scott McTominay latest

Interest in Scott McTominay has not gone away. The midfielder remains an attractive potential target to clubs.

According to The Athletic, Fulham still retain interest in McTominay, and they have been joined by Serie A side Napoli.

Two more Premier League clubs have made enquiries too, with Everton and Brentford both expressing an interest.

The report claims United could consider a deal for the Scotland international midfielder at around £25 million.

United’s McTominay dilemma

Scott McTominay is a squad player at Manchester United and he is comfortable with this role. And that is part of the reason to keep him around at Old Trafford.

His desire to leave United is unclear and it is said he would only agree to an exit if it was to ‘the right club’.

McTominay scored 10 goals for United last season too, a valuable contribution in a campaign where Rasmus Hojlund was the top scorer with 16.

United would also be able to count the entirety of the fee received as pure profit, in connection with PSR rules, as McTominay is a homegrown player.

So the dilemma over McTominay becomes less over what United may lose, but instead about what McTominay’s exit could allow the club to gain.

If the funds from a sale are quickly reinvested towards a new signing, then this could become a real opportunity to upgrade.
