‘Not holding back…’ Sporting director confirms interest in Man Utd star recently praised by Ruben Amorim

Manchester United could be set for a frantic end to the January transfer window with a lot of dominos being held up that can only fall under the deadline pressure.

The club’s precarious financial situation has made it so that they have to keep being reactive in the market instead of being proactive.

That has led to a “sell to buy” situation, further complicating matters, since the club don’t have many sellable assets in the Man Utd squad in the first place.

However, they may have one, since the sporting director of the club has made his interest in the Man Utd star public. Ruben Amorim praised him recently.

Napoli confirm Alejandro Garnacho transfer interest

That one sellable asset in the United squad is Alejandro Garnacho, who impressed Ruben Amorim after his statement performance vs Rangers.

Garnacho has been the subject of Napoli’s interest for a while now, even having multiple bids by the Italian club for him rejected by United.

United have stuck firm to their valuation all this time, clearly aware of the difference between a “want to sell” and a “need to sell” scenario when it comes to such a highly-rated player.

It appears that that stance might be working, with Napoli finally going public with their interest in the Argentine attacker.

Gianluca di Marzio reports quotes from Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, who has confirmed his interest in the United star, adding that they’ll do everything they can to sort out a Kvaratskhelia replacement.

Manna said: “Adeyemi and Garnacho are two names that interest us, that we like. They are not the only ones, we will try to evaluate the opportunities.

“We certainly will not pay prices outside the market. We need to replace Kvara, a transfer for the player’s will. We are not holding back. We also have other ideas, let’s see what happens in the next few days.”

Garnacho situation is a chance for Man Utd to put things right

When Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood were sold in the summer transfer window, so poor was the club’s selling record that they instantly made it to the top 10 United sales of all time.

In Garnacho, they’ve got the perfect situation to put that right because his sale shouldn’t be treated as one of necessity.

It can be argued that many Man Utd fans would happily accept no signings this month if it meant Garnacho stayed because he looks like the cost of doing business right now.

In such a situation, United can simply shrug and stick to their valuation, which should be at least £80 million, considering Garnacho’s age and already established pedigree.

United might be powerless to stop the “United tax” phenomenon this window while buying players, but they can certainly set a good precedent while trying to sell them.
