Matheus Cunha ‘optimistic’ about completing Man Utd transfer, Ruben Amorim has already made his feelings known about forward

Manchester United have made Matheus Cunha one of their top targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

After a turbulent campaign for Manchester United, Ruben Amorim will be planning to improve the squad over the summer as Ineos chiefs push for a clear-out of players deemed surplus to requirements.

That involves generating funds to sign new players because United’s budget will be restricted by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

One area of the team that needs strengthening is the attacking department, especially after a season that has seen United score 38 goals in 33 league matches.

It is understood that United’s interest in Matheus Cunha is progressing quickly, after positive talks over the Wolves forward.

United fans are excited at the prospect of signing Cunha as he has proven to be a dangerous force in a struggling Wolves side, scoring 16 goals in 31 matches this term.

It bodes well that Cunha is not put off by a potential lack of Champions League because United are not guaranteed a place in the competition, unless they win the Europa League.

Matheus Cunha ‘optimistic’ about joining Manchester United

A deal to sign Matheus Cuhna is pretty straightforward, granted United are willing to pay the Brazilian’s release clause of £62.5 million.

Cunha signed a new contract in January that secured a salary increase as well as an agreement of a release clause to allow him to move on.

Wolves are willing to accept payment in instalments, so United could strike an agreement similar to the one that saw Joshua Zirkzee sign from Bologna last summer.

More news has emerged regarding Cunha as the Manchester Evening News claim the player is ‘optimistic’ of a transfer to United.

The Brazil international is United’s prime target to play in one of the No.10 roles next season.

Cunha plays as one of two playmakers in the 3-4-2-1 formation that Amorim is trying to implement at Old Trafford. It makes him a good fit, along with the Premier League experience he has gained at Molineux.

Ruben Amorim is a fan of Matheus Cunha

Prior to United’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves at Old Trafford, Amorim name-checked Cunha as one of Wolves’ best players.

“He (Wolves coach Vitor Pereira)’s playing a 3-4-3, he’s doing quite well,” Amorim said.

“He’s changing some players, he has real quality players – Cunha and all these guys, they have real quality.”

He added: “I just gave the example because I remembered about Matheus. He’s scoring a lot of goals. Just that.”

While Amorim was only stating the obvious, he made it very clear that he was a fan of Cunha.

This made Wolves and Cunha aware that Amorim has been keeping a close eye on the Brazil international.

It will be difficult to properly assess Amorim’s preferred system at United until he gets a chance to build his own squad.
