Manchester United are being linked with a range of different strikers ahead of the summer transfer window.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Manchester United will be prioritising a move for a striker in the upcoming transfer window after continuing to struggle in front of goal throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

All you need to do is look at United sitting 14th in the Premier League table to see that something isn’t right at Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson would have multiple goalscorers in each squad, whereas United fans will struggle to name one in the current first-team.

There are major concerns over whether or not Rasmus Hojlund is good enough to lead the line for a club like United, while Joshua Zirkzee will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

United have been linked with several Premier League strikers in recent months, including Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and Wolves’ Matheus Cunha. Ineos are expected to weigh up their options ahead of a busy summer consisting of outgoings and incomings.

Ruben Amorim makes feelings clear on Matheus Cunha

Manchester United host Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday and Ruben Amorim namechecked Matheus Cunha, who has been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford.

Cunha, like Rayan Cherki on Thursday night, will be hoping to have a successful audition in front of Ineos chiefs when he plays at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Brazilian forward has made four appearances against United during his time at Wolves, winning one and losing three. Cunha has also managed to score one goal on top of two assists in games against the Red Devils.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the match, Amorim stressed that he has been impressed by the job of his countryman Vitor Pereira at Wolves and he also namechecked Cunha.

“I think he [Pereira] is doing an amazing job,” said Amorim. “He has real quality players – [Matheus] Cunha and all these guys, they have real quality.

“They are fresh, so we know it’s going to be a tough match and we are going to need a lot from our supporters. I know it’s a bad thing to ask anything this season from our fans but we need them on Sunday.”

Ruben Amorim cautious about playing youngsters against Wolves

United have nothing but pride to play for in the Premier League for the remainder of the season, after putting all their eggs in one basket with the Europa League.

Amorim could decide to rotate his players in the remaining league matches to keep them fresh for the Europa League, but we won’t know that for certain until he names his line-up on Sunday.

“It’s not the best moment or the best season to put some kids to play because they need a strong base to really show what they can do, but in this moment we need to do it.

“Ayden [Heaven] played because we had a lot of injuries at that moment. But today I think of Ayden as my player, so when he’s ready to play, you don’t know.

“[Harry] Amass did really well [against Lyon] and Chido [Martin] played quite well when he played. It’s a difficult moment – it’s not the right moment for the kids to play, but if we have to do it, we will do it.”
