Manchester United continue to pursue a new midfielder with Manuel Ugarte at the very top of the list.

It’s Premier League matchday for Manchester United, with the first fixture of the 2024/25 season set to kick-off. Don’t assume that means the club’s transfer business will go on pause.

An hour before the Community Shield kicked off at Wembley, news broke Manchester United had agreed a double deal with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Ineos are clearly capable of multi-tasking, and if there is a deal to be done for Manuel Ugarte, the club’s leaders won’t be asleep at the wheel.

Manuel Ugarte latest

The stakes over the Manuel Ugarte stand-off rose this week when Paris Saint-Germain left him out of their training sessions as they build towards their own season.

Agent Jorge Mendes also flew to England for talks, while the idea of a move to United appeals to Ugarte, and Erik ten Hag is also keen on a deal.

Discussions with PSG are ongoing, and Fabrizio Romano has updated a state of play in his latest YouTube video.

In terms of the club’s stance, he commented: “Focus at Man United remains Manuel Ugarte.”

He added that the Uruguay international feels the same way, and is eager to seal his dream move.

Romano said: “Ugarte wants a solution as soon as possible, with Man United on it.”

United In Focus reported earlier this week that Ugarte has rejected talks with other teams as his desire is to sign with Manchester United.

While this is not the ‘here we go’ for Ugarte yet, the deal feels very much alive, and you would expect an agreement is found before long.

PSG are due to announce their deal for attacking midfielder Desire Doue, and their focus on sales is expected to escalate.

Romano dismisses Napoli interest in McTominay

Romano also used the video to dismiss Napoli’s interest in Scott McTominay, explaining that the Serie A side are keen on a loan deal.

He explained this would be unacceptable to Manchester United, who would only consider a cash offer of around £30 million.

Romano also added that United never presented themselves as serious contenders for Youssouf Fofana, who has now agreed a move to AC Milan.
