Manchester United want a very specific type of new midfielder this summer and one option looks more and more appealling.

After substantially bolstering the attack this summer, Manchester United still have three positions which need an addition this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed United will sign a new striker next, with numerous options being considered up top as Benjamin Sesko emerges as one of the main options this summer.

A new goalkeeper also looks likely to be on the cards this summer with United targetting Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, who is one of Europe’s most exciting goalkeeper targets.

The final position desired by United is arguably the biggest problem area right now, in terms of the midfield. After drawing with Leeds, Ruben Amorim admitted his midfield needed more pace, which has led to several names being linked.

Javi Guerra ranks alongside Jude Bellingham for key statistics

United in Focus exclusively revealed that United are pushing forward to sign Javi Guerra from Valencia this summer, with his contract talks in Spain collapsing.

Guerra has the high intensity qualities United need in the midfield, with his pressing and ball carrying seen as elite.

Now, Statman Dave has tweeted on X to showcase Guerra’s qualities and in doing so he has been compared with two of La Liga’s best midfielders.

Guerra completed more than 50 tackles and more than 50 take-ons last season in La Liga, a statistic which only Jude Bellingham and Pedri managed in the league.

Guerra is an all action midfielder and ticks plenty of boxes that Amorim will have been looking for this summer.

Ruben Amorim desperate for athleticism in Manchester United midfield

While there has not been any developments in terms of a midfielder signing for United beyond interest and initial talks, it is clearly a top priority for Amorim.

Amorim wants a new athletic midfielder to add legs, power and running to the current department which has often looked disappointing.

Guerra ticks this box, with his work rate and intensity making him an interesting option for the right price, despite not being a clear fit for the defensive midfield role.

The Spanish talent wouldn’t be the perfect choice, but he has all the tools to arrive and become the player Amorim wants in midfield if he is willing to do the dirty work which he is capable of.
