Manchester United now unlikely to pursue ‘almost perfect’ defender this summer, Ineos aren’t fans

Manchester United are weighing up the defensive options this summer as centre-half has emerged as a transfer priority.

This summer could see as many as four but likely at least two centre-backs leave Old Trafford which is expected to free up some space for one or two incomings.

With this in mind, various names have been linked to Manchester United for a move this summer.

Most notable among these names has been the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Antonio Silva who would be phenomenal pick-ups for Erik ten Hag‘s defence.

But now the move for one linked defender has had doubt cast onto it with Ineos not in support of that deal.

Gleison Bremer not an option this summer for Manchester United

The search for defenders is well underway for United ahead of the upcoming transfer window this summer. But now it’s been suggested one recently linked player won’t be on that list.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs who was talking to MUFC MPB, ‘almost perfect‘ Juventus centre-half Gleison Bremer isn’t a target this summer.

“I’d be surprised if Gleison Bremer was pursued by Manchester United this summer. I’m not aware that it’s got any endorsement from the new regime.”

The Brazilian isn’t a player that Ineos are keen on signing, with several other options being preferred to strengthen the defence this coming summer.

Who are the defensive options that would make sense this summer?

This summer, whether one or two come in will likely depend on how many defenders depart this summer.

But one thing worth noting which could be a negative in the race for Branthwaite is that Ten Hag is likely to be in greater need of a right-footed centre-half, with only right-sided names tipped for the exit.

The Dutchman is known to favour a lefty and a righty so with Lisandro Martinez expected to remain a key player, signing a righty does make more sense.

For this reason, Silva from Benfica or Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini are the two names we think are the most sensible. But we won’t know until the summer and it’ll be fascinating to watch it all unfold.
