Manchester United make Sofyan Amrabat decision, Erik Ten Hag stance explained

Manchester United continue to work on new signings after confirming the arrivals of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro over the past seven days.

This time a week ago, Manchester United were preparing to announce a first summer signing.

Joshua Zirkzee completed his move from Bologna just hours before England suffered Euro 2024 heartbreak against Spain.

United fans didn’t have long to wait for another addition as wonderkid Leny Yoro arrived from Lille in a huge coup.

Once the initial excitement of a signing dies down, the next question is inevitable; ‘who’s next?’

It looks like Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin is poised to become that with reports suggesting that a deal for the teenager may be ‘imminent’.

Manchester United make Sofyan Amrabat decision

United also want to bring in a new midfielder or two this summer.

Casemiro’s future remains unclear and United have been pondering a decision over Sofyan Amrabat.

The Moroccan midfielder joined on loan from Fiorentina last summer, reuniting with Erik ten Hag in the process.

Amrabat featured under Ten Hag at Utrecht and United pounced to strike a loan deal with an option to buy included.

United hoped to see Amrabat recapture the form which saw him become a sensation at the 2022 World Cup, but that didn’t really happen.

The 27-year-old was in and out of the side, starting 10 Premier League games and coming off the bench 11 times.

Amrabat turned in some decent displays towards the end of the season though, making that option to buy a little trickier than first thought.

Tuttomercatoweb in Italy now claim that United have communicated a decision to Fiorentina – that Amrabat’s option will not be taken up.

It’s stated that Fiorentina have received ‘official communication’ from United in the last few hours, informing them that the deal will not be activated.

Other Premier League clubs are claimed to be interested, but the expectation is that Amrabat will now join up with Fiorentina for pre-season training this week.

Fabrizio Romano on Amrabat

Reports are also emerging from Fabrizio Romano, as he corroborates that United have refused to pay the €20million (£17million) fee.

However, Romano intriguingly claims that Amrabat could still end up at Old Trafford this summer.

It’s stated that United ‘remain interested’ in signing Amrabat on different terms as Ten Hag is a big fan, adding the club are ‘willing to discuss different conditions’.

United may simply attempt to renegotiate the fee for Amrabat or even take him on loan again.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte remains United’s top midfield target with personal terms already agreed.

Perhaps United are still eyeing Amrabat in case that move collapses, or still want him in case multiple midfielders leave Old Trafford.

The option isn’t being taken up but Amrabat remains a name to keep tabs on this summer.
