Manager may have ruled out signing Manchester United man with ‘discussion over’

PSV Eindhoven coach Peter Bosz may have just scuppered any potential deal to the Eredivisie leaders for Manchester United’s Premier League benchwarmer Facundo Pellistri.

Earlier this week, Rik Elfrink – a Dutch reporter who specialises in all things PSV – made it clear that Manchester United’s £9 million Uruguay international was only likely to arrive at the Philips Stadium if the Bosz’s side cashed in on fellow winger Yorbe Vertessen during the January transfer window.

And, according to the Borussia Dortmund, Ajax and Lyon manager, Vertessen is going nowhere this month.

Whether the same is true for Facundo Pellstri remains to be seen, amid reported interest from Villarreal and LA Galaxy.

But, as things stand, the chances of PSV being Pellistri’s destination appear slight, at best.

Facundo Pellistri faces Manchester United exit

“I spoke to (Vertessen),” Bosz tells Voetbal Nieuws. “And I told him that, as far as I’m concerned, he can’t leave. That’s it. For me, that discussion is over.

“He has been very important to us. Ultimately I’m not about that (selling him).”

Pellistri, who joined Man United from Penarol to the tune of £9 million back in 2020, has shown flashes of quality under Erik ten Hag but not enough to justify a more regular first-team spot.

It’s telling that, during the absence of Jadon Sancho and Antony – and amidst Marcus Rashford’s dip in form – Pellistri has still made only the one Premier League appearance in 2023/24, coming against Crystal Palace back in September.

Red Devils winger up for sale

HITC Football understands that Man United would consider permanent offers for the jet-heeled 22-year-old, as well as short-term loan deals.

Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, has dismissed reports suggesting that the Red Devils have offered Pellistri to Sporting Lisbon as part of a deal for their £69 million midfield maestro Morten Hjulmand.

“The rumours around this deal are not true from what I am told,” Romano explains on his YouTube channel. “There are no negotiations ongoing between the two clubs for a swap deal.”

Sancho and Donny van de Beek have already left Man United this month, with the Benfica-linked Alvaro Fernandez potentially set to follow them out the door.
