Manchester United recently struck a deal to sign a Colombian wonderkid – and could return for a second.

Following the recent deal for Diego Leon, Ineos‘ scouting network identified another future star, Cristian Orozco.

Orozco, 17, will officially join Manchester United next July when he turns 18. A deal has been agreed with his club in Colombia, Fortaleza.

Midfielder Orozco is the Colombia under-17s captain, and United In Focus can reveal new details about the deal.

The clubs Manchester United beat to sign Cristian Orozco

Manchester United moved promptly to strike a deal for Cristian Orozco before the upcoming under-17s World Cup in Qatar.

United In Focus understands via transfer insider Graeme Bailey that three Premier League clubs were also keen on signing Orozco.

Manchester City, Newcastle and Brighton were all keen on Orozco, along with at least two European clubs.

Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig were among those who were monitoring Orozco, and beaten to the punch by United’s quick deal, with the Red Devils’ focusing on expanding the search for young talents.

Bailey explains: “United are working hard in the Americas and Africa at the moment, they really are the places you can pick up some amazing young talent at source.

“Look at Orozco. United have done that before his likely appearance in the World Cup in Qatar later this year, but they have got him for less than £1 million. That is nothing for any English club and he could be a superstar, and even if not – they are probably not going to lose money on the deal.

“This is an area that Ineos and Jason Wilcox are paying real close attention to at the moment.”

Manchester United eyeing Kevin Angulo

United In Focus can also reveal that United have an interest in one of Orozco’s international teammates, Kevin Angulo.

Angulo, 17, is a striker who has represented Colombia at under-17s level and has also made his professional debut.

He made his debut for America de Cali at 16 in the league, and has also played in the Copa Sudamericana.

America de Cali are nicknamed Los Diablos Rojos, translating as The Red Devils.

Angulo scored in a recent friendly for Colombia’s under-17s against Bolivia, held at the end of August. He then followed this up with a goal against Venezuela in September, with Orozco captaining the side.

Like Orozco, he turns 18 next July, so even if an agreement was struck beforehand, he could not join up with United until next summer.
