Manchester United fans were treated to some exciting transfer news regarding Colombian wonderkid Cristian Orozco.

During the later stages of the summer transfer window, Manchester United spent their time scouring the market for a new midfielder.

United were ready to bid for Carlos Baleba, but Brighton were demanding a fee of over £100 million for the 21-year-old star.

Conor Gallagher was on United’s radar in the final few days of the window, but ultimately, Ineos chose to head into the 2025/26 campaign without any midfield reinforcements.

Improving the midfield will now be Ruben Amorim’s top priority, and it seems scouts have picked out Cristian Orozco as an exciting wonderkid option.

What Man United fans are saying about the Cristian Orozco deal

Reports this week claimed that United have agreed a deal to sign Cristian Orozco when he turns 18 years old.

The reports have taken the United fanbase by surprise, but there is huge excitement about the midfielder’s potential.

Fans were quick to praise United’s scouts and Ineos’ transfer strategy, with one fan writing: “Kone, Heaven, Orozco, Obi-Martin, Leon etc. One of the best things that INEOS implemented in our club is this model of getting young players from all around the world for low transfer fees.”

That was echoed by another supporter who wrote: “The sort of deals City and Chelsea do, we’re finally moving smart.”

Others pointed out that United missed out on Moises Caicedo when he was available for just £4.5 million – just a few years before he made a record-breaking £115 million move to Chelsea.

“I appreciate United scouts getting this young talent all around the globe, something the previous scouts have missed out on heavily. We learnt from not signing Caicedo for cheaper. Good work from Christopher Vivell, Jason Wilcox and the scouting team,” one fan posted.

After watching clips of Orozco, another fan claimed: “He is ‘a Caicedo with more technical ability’.”

Another supporter celebrated: “We didn’t let the Caicedo miss happen again!”

“We are making up for the Caicedo blunder guys,” was added by another fan.

When Cristian Orozco can join Man United

The Orozco deal is very similar to United’s signing of Diego Leon in that the player will have to wait until he is 18 years old before finalising his move to Old Trafford.

As per Transfermarkt, Orozco is currently 17 years old and his birthday is on July 13th, meaning he will have to wait until next summer to finalise a move.

With previous Ineos signings, youngsters have often spent a settling-in period in the academy or have been selected to go out on loan to gather more experience.

With Leon, Amorim chose to assess the Paraguayan in pre-season before deciding to keep him around the first team for the 25/26 campaign.

Orozco will hope for a similar outcome if he completes a move to Manchester next summer.
