Man Utd told they can still sign Aurelien Tchouameni, but at the cost of Mateus Fernandes

Spanish media have not closed the door on Manchester United signing Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni this summer.

Manchester United’s midfield rebuild has started with a £38 million deal for Ederson, but Ineos are still scouring the market for a marquee arrival.

A bid for Mateus Fernandes is expected to arrive soon after United have been in concrete talks with the West Ham star.

But there have also been links to Aurelien Tchouameni. Jose Mourinho’s stance on Tchouameni is that he is not untouchable, so the door remains open for a summer deal.

Man United could sign Aurelien Tchouameni but miss out on Mateus Fernandes

United fans have made it clear they want Fernandes at Old Trafford next season, but what if Ineos were given the choice between signing him or Tchouameni?

Spanish journalist Ruben Martin, as quoted by Sport Witness, believes that Madrid may allow Tchouameni to leave to pave the way for Mourinho to sign Mateus Fernandes.

“What I’m saying is that if Real Madrid keeps Tchouameni and Manchester United signs Mateus Fernandes, the player Mourinho really wanted was Mateus Fernandes,” Martin said.

“So, you’re closing the door on yourself if you don’t sell Tchouameni to United.

“If you sell him, you’ll recoup some money and be able to sign the player Mourinho wants.”

Man United should prioritise Mateus Fernandes

Real Madrid have shown interest in Fernandes, and it seems that interest is being driven by his compatriot Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho and Fernandes share Jorge Mendes as an agent, and if United don’t move quickly for the Portuguese midfielder, he could gravitate more towards the Bernabeu.

The difference between Fernandes and Tchouameni this summer is that Fernandes is ‘desperate’ to join United, and that alone should inform Ineos on what to do.

United need players who are eager to buy into the project at Old Trafford, and Fernandes wants the move.

Tchouameni is a world-class talent and would be a fantastic signing for United, but if it was a direct choice between him or Fernandes, Ineos must prioritise the latter.
