Man Utd sources have sent a clear message after rumours Mason Mount could join Ruben Amorim at AC Milan

Manchester United will have a decision to make if AC Milan formalises their interest in Mason Mount.

It was inevitable that, when Ruben Amorim became the new head coach of AC Milan, the Italian giants would be linked with several players at Manchester United.

Although Amorim didn’t sign any Sporting CP players during his time at United, the Red Devils were linked with more than a handful of players from the Lisbon-based outfit.

It hasn’t taken long for similar reports to emerge on United players, with Amorim pushing Milan to sign Mason Mount.

Mason Mount is part of Man Utd’s plans

Although Mount has had limited game time since joining the club, mostly due to injuries, it’s worth acknowledging how much former coaches rated him as a player.

Erik ten Hag and Amorim both admired Mount, despite not being able to get the best out of the England international.

Italian reporter Carlo Pellegatti has been checking for updates on Mount to Milan. He claims that people close to United are denying the reports and saying that they consider him part of their plans moving forward.

“Another important point: yesterday there was some speculation involving Mason Mount, a player I know very well. He’s at Manchester United–he used to be at Chelsea.

“Yesterday, rumours spread that the current Manchester United player could be of interest to AC Milan. Mount would be an ideal attacking midfielder to play in that role. Let’s dream a little–after all, the transfer window is also the season for dreaming. If they add Gonçalo Ramos up front, then perhaps another quality option alongside him. Behind them, I’d have Christopher Nkunku and Pulisic, with alternatives like Rebic and Mason Mount. Suddenly you’re looking at a squad with genuine international quality.

“As for Mason Mount, people close to Manchester United have denied the reports and say the club still considers him part of their plans. So, at the moment, he’s not available. His valuation wouldn’t be excessive–around €25 million–but it’s still worth keeping an eye on the situation.

“The rumour has definitely been circulating. So it’s a story worth monitoring carefully–but without getting too carried away or having unrealistic expectations about a move for Mason Mount.”

It remains to be seen how United would react if a bid worth £25m or higher came in for Mount. The 27-year-old is also earning significant wages for a player who doesn’t play regularly.

Michael Carrick values Mason Mount versatility

Following United’s 3-0 win over Brighton on the final day of last season, Mount started in a deeper midfield role alongside Kobbie Mainoo.

Mount showed his versatility and impressed Carrick with his performance, which was his best of the season.

According to The Athletic, Mount’s versatility across different positions will prove valuable to the squad as they compete across four competitions next season.

Mount will hope to come back strong for the new season after having the summer off to recharge his batteries.
