Manchester United will need to sell to buy this summer, with several high value departures on Ineos’ list of plans.
After what is almost certain to be a record-breaking Premier League campaign for Manchester United, with a lowest ever league finish, plenty of work is needed on the squad.
Sitting below mid-table, even finishing inside the top 10 looks beyond United right now with Ruben Amorim left frustrated by the key men at either end of the pitch.
In goal, Andre Onana has proved to be detrimental to United. The 29-year-old has been shaky all season, but Onana’s worst performance yet came for United against Lyon when he made two big errors handing the French side a chance in the second-leg.
At the other end, Rasmus Hojlund has been offering absolutely nothing for United in attack, which has seen countless replacements linked with moving to Old Trafford.

Juventus are planning a Rasmus Hojlund swoop this summer
Due to his struggles and United’s need for an upgrade, there is a good chance that Ineos will cut losses on Hojlund this summer.
According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, United will be looking to receive a fee worth £52 million to sell this summer, which would represent a profit on the PSR books.
With this in mind, Juventus are thought to be keen on signing Hojlund and the Dane is also open to making a return to Italian football as his chances of succeeding in England look at an all time low.
The report also places a timescale onto when Juventus might make their move to sign Hojlund. It is claimed that the Bianconeri could swoop for Hojlund in advance of the Club World Cup this summer.
Juventus are keen to take Hojlund initially on loan, with the option to buy him permanently in the future. United could be tempted by this if it was an obligation to buy or obligation after certain landmarks – especially if it is around the £52m demand.
In preparation of this, United have already found the replacement they want.
How Hojlund compares to Manchester United target Liam Delap in 2024/2025
With Hojlund on the ‘for sale’ list this summer, United will need practically a brand new attack. Antony and Marcus Rashford will both likely be sold permanently, which leaves an already threadbare group even lighter.
United are looking to sign both Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha in order to bolster the ranks, with both being significant upgrades on what Amorim currently has at his disposal.
But how much better would both be – particularly Delap – than Hojlund?
Cunha vs Delap vs Hojlund 2024/25 Premier League
| Stat | Cunha | Delap | Hojlund |
| Games | 26 | 30 | 26 |
| Goals | 13 | 12 | 3 |
| Assists | 4 | 2 | 0 |
| Shot creating actions | 98 | 59 | 29 |
| Goal creating actions | 9 | 7 | 1 |
Cunha would be a No.10 on arrival, and as we can see, he offers so much quality in that role with his remarkable shot creation stats.
However, when looking at Delap vs Hojlund, it is also crystal clear that Ipswich’s £30m man would be a significant upgrade.
