It was a dismal night for Andre Onana in the Europa League for Manchester United as he made two catastrophic errors.
Thursday night was the biggest game of the season for Manchester United so far, yet Andre Onana didn’t get the memo. After his war of words in the build-up, the pressure was on to back it all up during the game.
He did not; in fact, it was quite the opposite for United’s number one as he made two huge individual errors to hand Lyon their two goals. This performance was shockingly bad, as David May labelled Onana as being ‘shambolic’ on MUTV.
After the game, Ruben Amorim suggested he hadn’t yet spoken to Onana as to avoid saying the wrong thing, which sounds as though he was angry – and rightfully so.
United drew the game against Lyon 2-2, although Amorim coached a 2-0 win or even more due to poor decision making and finishing once again.
With Onana as bad as he was, it was going to take a lot for a player to be considered worse, but one managed it.
Rasmus Hojlund was worse than Andre Onana according to French ratings
In the game, it was undeniable that Onana and Rasmus Hojlund were United’s two worst players; however, choosing which was worse is a tough call.
Well, in France, outlet Maxi Foot has rated the United team and, in doing so, has handed Hojlund a match rating of just 2/10, while Onana gets 3/10.
Considering Onana was directly responsible for United failing to win the game, it speaks volumes that Hojlund could be considered as bad or worse than Onana.
Before Onana made the errors leading to goals for the Ligue 1 side, Hojlund could have had United ahead with a big chance in the box falling to the Dane.
The 22-year-old scuffed his shot from the centre of the box on his favoured foot as it limply tumbled nowhere near the goal.
So, he could have prevented this whole thing if he could score a goal, which shouldn’t be asking too much considering he is a £64m striker.
Rasmus Hojlund must be dropped by Ruben Amorim going forward and Joshua Zirkzee proved it
United playing Hojlund right now is almost like starting the game with just 10 players. The Dane offers nothing: no passes or hold-up play, let alone goals – with confidence sure to be at an all-time low.
When comparing his performance to Zirkzee’s cameo, we can see clearly who the better player is right now.

Hojlund must be dropped going forward by Amorim with Zirkzee and also Chido Obi showing themselves to be better options despite fewer games up top.
United’s No.9 can have no complaints, he has gotten far too much time and opportunities. Now, Amorim must place him on the bench and give others a chance before he costs us a Europa League semi-final spot.
The summer cannot come soon enough for a new striker to arrive.
