Fabrizio Romano has now explained the “very difficult” situation surrounding one Manchester United star and the Premier League club going forward in the long term.
Manchester United are 11th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils picked up their second win of the 2025-26 season under Ruben Amorim on the weekend.
The Red Devils were in action at Old Trafford and 10-man United defeated 10-man Chelsea in the Premier League after a 2-1 scoreline on Saturday evening.
United avoided a late scare against Chelsea and held on to their lead to collect all three points, with Casemiro being sent off in the first half of the match.
Fabrizio Romano has provided a transfer update on one United first-team player’s “chapter” at Old Trafford after the summer window closed in September.

Fabrizio Romano on Andre Onana’s true feelings about Man Utd after his Trabzonspor transfer
Andre Onana lost his place as Manchester United No 1 under Ruben Amorim and was axed from the Red Devils squad amid the 2025-26 Premier League season.
The 29-year-old Cameroonian shot-stopper had been deemed surplus to requirements and Andre Onana was offloaded to Trabzonspor in a loan deal.
The Turkish transfer window closed earlier this month and Super Lig outfit Trabzonspor made a late move for out-of-favour United star Onana.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has now claimed that Onana was “quite disappointed with the situation” around his future at Old Trafford in the summer.
“My understanding is that both sides, Manchester United and Andre Onana himself, see this Man United chapter as almost closed,” he said.
“So, it is very difficult to imagine Andre Onana staying at Manchester United beyond [the] season [20]25-26.
“So, let’s say restarting his Manchester United life for [20]26-27 [season] and beyond.
“Very difficult because Onana was quite disappointed with the situation this summer because Man United believe that Senne Lammens is going to be the goalkeeper for [the] present and [the] future.
“So, unless something extraordinary happens, I think this is a straight loan, okay, for Trabzonspor.”
Fabrizio Romano makes ‘never say never’ claim amid Andre Onana’s loan move to Trabzonspor and his uncertain Man Utd future
Trabzonspor landed Onana on a season-long loan for the 2025-26 season and the Cameroon international’s disappointing spell at Old Trafford came to an end for now.
Onana had disappointed in his two seasons at United after the Red Devils brought the former Ajax star to Old Trafford in 2023 from Inter Milan in a £47.2m move.
Romano suggested that Onana could explore other options outside of Trabzonspor in the future, but he refused to rule out him staying at United beyond next summer.
“He might go somewhere else in the future, but it’s over between Manchester United and Onana, probably because at the moment this is the sentiment,” he continued.
“This is the feeling. Then, guys, in football, never say never. Maybe a new coach arrives and decides something different.
“Maybe Onana decides to go for a different opportunity and fight for his place at Man United. Anything can happen in football. We know that.”
Onana’s contract with United expires in 2028 and the former Inter Milan shot-stopper has made two appearances for Trabzonspor since his September move.
