Barcelona look likely to make a move for Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood who is currently performing for Getafe in Spain.
Mason Greenwood has gone from strength to strength in La Liga for Getafe this season after a deadline-day loan move.
The Manchester United academy graduate was sent on loan after fan backlash as he returned after being suspended after his arrest in 2022.
Since making the move to Getafe, Greenwood has been among the goals and assists including what Spanish media described as a goal-of-the-season contender.
Due to his performances – there is now a high level of interest in Greenwood coming out of Spain as he’s been lauded as a ‘Real Madrid level player‘.
Despite the big boys coming in, Getafe remain interested and even have reportedly suggested a £40m fee for the Englishman. However, it now appears that Catalan giants Barcelona are establishing themselves as favourites.

Barcelona very keen on signing Mason Greenwood
Barcelona look like they’re going to make a serious push for Greenwood’s signature in January. This comes as The Sun report that the Spanish giants have scouted Greenwood for three consecutive games now.
Adding to this, a club representative has suggested the 22-year-old is ‘tailor-made’ to play for United. The report continues that Barcelona are ‘determined’ to bring Greenwood in and is currently at the ‘front of the queue’.
Scouts have been tasked with determining if he suits Barcelona but already a decision seems inevitable.
“The overwhelming view is that he does, and that he would be a strong addition to the squad.”
How much would Mason Greenwood cost?
Greenwood – if sold – wouldn’t come cheap, with the reported £40m from Getafe believed to be nowhere near enough. Especially if his excellent form in La Liga continues.
Despite a return to Old Trafford being viewed as unlikely, United – particularly the new sporting hierarchy which is expected to be in place soon – won’t want to make any major decision which they could later regret.
However, the opportunity to get such a huge fee for a player that seems unlikely to ever return to playing for United.
