Manchester United now face a real battle in landing one long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes after Manchester City and Pep Guardiola sparked their interest in the midfield talent.
Bruno Fernandes was the standout performer for Manchester United in the Red Devils’ woeful 2024-25 campaign, with the 30-year-old posting impressive numbers.
The United captain showed his influence once again for the Red Devils by netting 19 times and registering 19 assists in 57 matches across all competitions last season.
Fernandes is under contract with United until 2027, but the Red Devils were at risk of losing their talisman this summer amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
Al Hilal were linked with United star Fernandes in recent months and the Saudi Pro League side were reportedly ready to offer a lucrative package to sign the player.
However, Fernandes rejected the approach from Al Hilal and the Portugal international confirmed his intention to remain at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola could now sign Man Utd-linked midfielder who is tipped as the ‘heir to Bruno Fernandes’
Bruno Fernandes will turn 31 years old in September and the Red Devils will be on the hunt for an ‘heir-apparent’ to the Manchester United captain in the near future.
The Portugal midfielder remains a key figure for Ruben Amorim and retained the captain’s armband under his fellow countryman after the United manager’s arrival.
United have been linked with Fermin Lopez and the Barcelona and Spain midfielder has been tipped as a potential long-term replacement for Fernandes at Old Trafford.
According to Madrid-Barcelona.com, Manchester City and Pep Guardiola have now turned their interest to Fermin Lopez amid interest from crosstown rivals United.
The publication claims that City manager Guardiola sees the 22-year-old rising Barcelona talent as a ‘priority’ to ‘renew’ his side’s midfield ahead of next season.

Fermin Lopez has impressed during his time at the Camp Nou and the Spanish midfielder is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick holds the United and City-linked midfielder in high regard, but Lopez’s future at the La Liga club has been plunged into doubt.
The Spanish side could be open to selling the player amid their financial woes and their need to free up wages to register new signings ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Lopez is under contract until 2029 with Barcelona and the Spain international is reportedly valued at around £43m (€50m), despite his importance to Hansi Flick.
However, Barcelona have included an astonishing €500m buyout clause in Lopez’s contract and are expected to play hardball over any negotiations for the player.
Madrid-Barcelona reports that ex-Barcelona manager Guardiola sees Lopez as the ‘perfect mix of intensity’ and ‘technique,’ including a player with ‘winning mentality.’
