Manchester United appear to be weighing up options should they step away from a deal to sign West Ham ace Mateus Fernandes.

The transfer window is not open long, but clubs are already making moves while the 2026 World Cup unfolds.

Some of the players linked to Manchester United aren’t competing at the World Cup, including Mateus Fernandes and Alex Scott.

United fans will have to wait until after the tournament ends for Brazil midfielder Ederson to join, after reaching an agreement with Atalanta for the 26-year-old midfielder.

Bournemouth’s Alex Scott could be among Man Utd’s first options as Mateus Fernandes alternative

Tottenham are stepping up their interest in Fernandes, meaning United face Premier League competition for the Portuguese midfielder’s signature.

The latest report suggests Tottenham have offered more money than United to Fernandes, with the 21-year-old very keen on the move that would see him remain in London.

According to the Daily Mail, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is one of the first options United would turn to if they cannot sign Fernandes from West Ham.

Although Scott would be a cheaper alternative, so would his Bournemouth teammate, Tyler Adams.

Two other Premier League midfield targets still under consideration at Old Trafford are Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.

Meanwhile, it is noted that United’s interest in Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali has cooled.

Man Utd continue to monitor Aurelien Tchouameni’s situation at Real Madrid

Reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid are open to selling a marquee-name midfielder this summer, including Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.

The Daily Mail stresses that United are continuing to monitor Tchouameni’s situation at Real Madrid.

Tchouameni reportedly wants to stay at Real Madrid, but Jose Mourinho is still assessing the squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

A decision on Tchouameni’s future is unlikely to come until after the World Cup.
