Manchester United are on the lookout for a new striker and Ruben Amorim has preferred to do his shopping in the Premier League so far this summer.
The Red Devils have already made three major signings this summer, although the £7m deal for Diego Leon was agreed back in January.
Joining him at Carrington, United have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and recently announced a £65m deal for Bryan Mbeumo. Both arrive as Premier League-proven stars.
Ruben Amorim wants Premier League experience in his squad, and in Cunha and Mbeumo he has signed two top-flight superstars.
The final piece of the attacking puzzle is to sign a new striker, and Bournemouth’s Evanilson is the latest name on United’s radar.
Man United consider Evanilson as potential striker target
Reports have suggested that there are three strikers on United’s shopping list in Nicolas Jackson, Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko. The latter is the only player who would arrive with no Premier League experience.
But United are also open to alternatives and transfer expert Ekrem Konur has now claimed that Bournemouth’s Evanilson is a “potential target” for United this summer.
Bournemouth made a club-record £40m move for Evanilson last summer, and he enjoyed a strong debut season in England’s top flight, scoring 10 Premier League goals.
Evanilson faced the Red Devils twice last season, including an impressive performance when Bournemouth beat United 3-0 at Old Trafford. He was sent off in the reverse fixture, however.
At 25 years old, the Brazilian still has plenty of time to improve and Ineos could launch a bid to try and bring him to Manchester.
Man United wanted to sign Evanilson back in 2022
United’s scouting department will likely have some files stashed away on Evanilson having previously monitored him as a target.
United showed interest in Evanilson in 2022 when he was making his breakthrough at Porto.
Evanilson was the first foreign player aged under 22 to break the 20-goal barrier in a season for Porto in the last 40 years.
He has continued on a promising trajectory ever since, and he proved last year that he is cut out for Premier League football.
One hurdle is the price tag. Bournemouth won’t want to part ways with the Brazilian for cheap having only signed him in 2024.
Evanilson signed a five-year contract with the Cherries, meaning they are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon. If Ineos want to make a move, it likely won’t come cheap.
