Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Patrick Dorgu after holding further talks with Lecce.
Ruben Amorim warned Manchester United fans that it could be a quiet January transfer window for the club but the Portuguese head coach is now inching closer to welcoming the first major signing of his tenure.
United had two bids rejected for Patrick Dorgu but refused to give up their pursuit of the 20-year-old Lecce defender.
A third bid for Dorgu worth £31m is being readied and United are growing in confidence that a deal can be completed before the transfer window slams shut on February 3rd.
Ever since his first match in charge of United, Amorim has wanted a new left wing-back and it seems his wish is about to come true.

The one concern Man United may have about Patrick Dorgu
Dorgu has been described as a “machine” ahead of his move to England due to his physicality and fitness.
United scouts are excited by Dorgu as he appears to be a great fit for Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. Since arriving in November, Amorim has struggled to find players who fit in at wing-back. That is precisely where Patrick Dorgu has played his best football.
Dorgu recently featured in the Daily Mail’s list of the best Scandinavian wonderkids where he is described as “tall, athletic and adventurous”.
However, the report adds that Dorgu’s “one-v-one ability” will be a “concern” for United.
Dorgu has scored three times and provided one assist for Lecce this season, but the report suggests that his dribbling and ability to take on a defender is a weakness to his game.
How Patrick Dorgu fits into Ruben Amorim’s plans
United are lacking natural wing-backs in the current squad, which is a key part of Amorim’s 3-4-3 setup. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have filled in, but neither are very comfortable going forward.
Amorim has also questioned United’s lack of physicality in recent weeks, but Dorgu “runs like three players” so he will improve the athleticism of the back line.
His signing will also allow Dalot to return to his preferred right flank after spending the first half of the season filling in on the left.
Dorgu also fits the transfer strategy employed by Ineos since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover. At 20 years old, he is a hugely exciting talent who still has plenty of time to develop into a superstar.
