BBC Sport report a fee has been agreed with Bologna and Zirkzee, who will now fly to Manchester to undergo a medical.

Manchester United are paying a fee of £36 million for Joshua Zirkzee, The Times reports.

Zirkzee will sign a five year contract that contains the option of a sixth year extension.

The deal for Joshua Zirkzee is a moderate one compared to fees paid for transfer targets in the past.

Manchester United’s record transfer deals shows Zirkzee’s fee will rank 16th, alongside the initial £36 million paid to Monaco for Anthony Martial.

Unlike Martial’s deal, there are no add-ons here in the fee agreed with Bologna.

Why Joshua Zirkzee release clause has not been triggered

Joshua Zirkzee had a £34 million release clause. Manchester United have chosen to pay £36 million. And there is a good reason for this.

The £34 million release clause had to be paid in full. That is £34 million against the club’s accounts in one financial year.

Agreeing the £36 million fee means it can be split on the accounts across multiple years across his contract, allowing United extra flexibility during this transfer window, to get deals done while complying with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Joshua Zirkzee is flying to complete his medical on Manchester United on Friday July 12. The deal could be announced later that day or over the weekend.

Joshua Zirkzee was a transfer target for AC Milan before Manchester United hijacked the move. Arsenal had also been interested.

Caught Offside claimed Zirkzee made clear he would reject an offer from Arsenal as his clear preference was to join Manchester United.
