‘It’s all completed’… Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd-linked star to have medical with Bayern before free transfer ‘sealed’ until 2029

Manchester United’s transfer window has kicked into gear much earlier than usual with Matheus Cunha’s signing a formality and the other dominoes around them are also falling.

Ruben Amorim can count Enzo Kana-Biyik and Matheus Cunha as his two signings so far, while the focus is on Liam Delap next.

Man Utd are likely to sign another No. 10 as well in addition to Cunha, before any more moves are made depending upon the sales.

However, that financial situation has already seen them miss out on a player once called ‘the best defender in the world’.

Man Utd-linked Jonathan Tah transfer ‘complete’

Manchester United’s financial situation this summer means that they have targeted players with release clauses and potentially some free transfers.

In addition to that, there will be non-qualification for any European competition next season, and the need to do smart deals will become even more important.

Enter Jonathan Tah, the Leverkusen centre-back whose contract expires in the summer.

Man Utd were linked to Tah ever since his intention to leave was reported, but the German centre-back has made the most predictable move possible.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Tah’s move to Bayern Munich is “all completed”, with the player set to have a medical before signing a contract till 2029.

Ironically enough, he could be the true replacement for Matthijs de Ligt, sold to Bayern Munich last summer but never really got replaced.

Kim Min-Jae hasn’t had the best of times in Bavaria, while Hiroki Ito, signed to replace De Ligt, picked up a serious injury last season.

Man Utd won’t lose sleep over Tah

Although Tah is undoubtedly a talented defender whose physical profile also fits the Premier League, Man Utd are unlikely to lose sleep over this move.

Their centre-back options look well-stocked, despite Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans’ exit.

Tyler Fredricson shone in limited appearances and deserves a longer rope next season in a proper squad rotation role, while Godwill Kukonki will be another one to watch.

Lisandro Martinez will return from injury, Ayden Heaven will be available from the beginning, and De Ligt will also have one full season of acclimatising in his bag.

Tah would have been a free transfer but that just means paying extra in wages, something which United are trying to keep a close control on.

It’s a win-win deal for all parties. Bayern get their De Ligt replacement a year later, United can focus on other positions, and Tah stays in Germany and upgrades competitively.
