Italian newspaper now links ‘quality’ Manchester United star with AC Milan switch as Marcus Rashford move off

Manchester United seem open to selling Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho but another young forward is being linked away.

There are now less than two weeks of the January transfer window to go.

Ruben Amorim is yet to really get involved outside of seeing Manchester United sign Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno for the future.

A new signing may be possible though with United in talks to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

Departures will be required too and Antony’s imminent move to Real Betis isn’t suddenly going to unlock incoming business.

United may need to make a big sale too and Napoli are chasing Alejandro Garnacho in a potentially huge move.

Manchester United forward linked with AC Milan

The Serie A market could be key for United with Dorgu wanted from Lecce.

AC Milan were interested in Marcus Rashford too with the forward exiled by Amorim.

That deal now won’t be happening though with Milan on the verge of signing Kyle Walker, using up their final non-EU spot in the Manchester City defender.

Rashford won’t be joining Milan but Zlatan Ibrahimovic is now being linked with another United forward.

Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that Milan could make a move to sign Rasmus Hojlund on loan to bolster their attacking options.

It’s suggested that United may let Hojlund go if cash from selling Garnacho can be reinvested in Viktor Gyokeres or Matheus Cunha.

That is a lot of moving parts and, truthfully, we can’t see a situation where United spend on a new striker and loan out Hojlund.

Hojlund has though shown quality in Serie A before and it would be no surprise if Italian clubs were interested.

We expect the Dane to still be at Old Trafford come the end of the January transfer window, but he needs to pick up his form in 2025.

Rasmus Hojlund yet to fulfil Viktor Gyokeres comparison

Hojlund joined United for £64million in 2023, rising to £72million having been impressed with his potential at Atalanta.

United have seen glimpses of Hojlund’s quality but consistency has not yet arrived for the 21-year-old.

That is understandable at this stage in Hojlund’s development but United will need to see more from him soon.

United fans likened Hojlund to Gyokeres, believing that Amorim would turn the Dane into a similarly lethal forward.

Amorim has praised Hojlund as a ‘quality player’ but that rise has yet to happen and Hojlund has managed just one Premier League goal with Amorim at the helm.

Gyokeres became a goal machine under Amorim and Hojlund may just need more time – and more service from his teammates – to hit those heights.

It’s also important to note that Amorim signed Gyokeres at 25, meaning Hojlund is at a completely different stage in his development right now.

United surely won’t be pushing Hojlund out to Milan or anybody else before the transfer deadline but 2025 will be a big year for him and his Old Trafford future.
