Italian media claim European giants have considered Jadon Sancho swap

Manchester United have welcomed Jadon Sancho back into first-team training but that hasn’t stopped rumours surrounding his future at Old Trafford.

Few fans could have expected a way back for Jadon Sancho at Manchester United.

The winger had a very public fall-out with Erik ten Hag last season and was completely frozen out by the United boss.

Sancho was sent on loan to former club Borussia Dortmund and actually got back into some form, even featuring in the Champions League final.

Many would have excepted United to sell Sancho this summer – if there were suitors stepping forward for him.

Dortmund affording a permanent deal was always going to be tricky though and United have now decided to put him back into the fold.

Juventus consider Jadon Sancho swap move

Sancho returned to first-team training on Friday and is working at Carrington ahead of the new Premier League season.

Ten Hag has admitted that he and Sancho have ‘drawn the line’ and will now move on from their spat.

United may well be willing to bring Sancho back into the fold, but will surely still listen to offers if they arrive.

That is an interesting idea as Serie A side Juventus continue to be linked with a move for Sancho.

Gazzetta dello Sport (14/07, page 2) report that Juventus would be interested in a swap involving Sancho and Federico Chiesa.

It’s stated that such an exchange ‘remains a hypothesis’ inside Juventus and would be at least considered by United.

Juventus were keen on Sancho back in October and the Italian media believe that the interest is still there.

Chiesa is out of contract in 2025 and Juventus want to offload him this summer before he leaves for nothing.

Chelsea are understood to be taking a look at Chiesa’s situation too, so let’s look at whether the Italian makes sense for United.

Chiesa to United analysis

The 26-year-old is certainly a talented player.

A tricky dribbler with real speed and a willingness to drive at defenders, Chiesa would get fans off their seats at Old Trafford.

Chiesa has been hailed as ‘unstoppable’ by former teammate Giorgio Chiellini, but his end product has been a little hit and miss.

Nine goals and three assists last season is solid if unspectacular, and he mustered only four goals and six assists in the 2022-23 season after coming back from a major injury.

That lack of production has held Chiesa back from being one of Europe’s very top attackers rather than a player who can be a threat when he turns it on.

Chiesa spent most of last season playing off the striker, a role which he wouldn’t have at United with Bruno Fernandes around.

Chiesa has operated on both flanks but would feel like another left-sided winger being asked to do a job on the right hand side, rather than a natural in that role.

We just can’t see United taking Chiesa this summer and believe that Ten Hag really will give Sancho a chance to save his United career over pre-season.
