Manchester United have stepped up their interest in signing Benjamin Sesko this summer, but they are not the only Premier League side chasing his signature.
Ineos have already made two impressive additions to Manchester United’s attacking line in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, but a striker is viewed as the final piece of the puzzle.
Fabrizio Romano claims United are “very convinced” they’ll sign a striker this summer, and it is quickly becoming clear who is at the top of the club’s shopping list.
Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins are top targets for United, with Ineos now facing a choice between youth and potential or Premier League experience.
After holding concrete talks with the player, United have presented an offer to Sesko this week and are now exploring a potential deal.
Benjamin Sesko ‘impressed’ by Man United pursuit
Missing out on Champions League football for 2025/26 immediately put United on the back foot this summer, and it has meant that Ineos have had to box clever in the transfer window.
With no European football to offer, it has been extra important for Ineos to sell Ruben Amorim’s project to new signings and make sure that the player only wants to join United to be part of that rebuild.
Newcastle United are also pushing for Sesko this summer and, unlike the Red Devils, they have Champions League football to offer next season.
However, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Benjamin Sesko has been left “impressed” by United’s efforts to sign him.
United’s scouts “love” Sesko, while transfer chief Christopher Vivell is also a big admirer having worked with him in the Red Bull setup.
It seems as though Sesko is open to joining United, but now it comes down to whether Ineos can match RB Leipzig’s asking price and beat Newcastle to his signature.
Plettenberg reports that Leipzig are “now demanding at least €80 million” for Sesko, which converts to £69 million.
Benjamin Sesko would break Ruben Amorim’s transfer strategy
Both of United’s attacking signings so far have arrived as proven Premier League stars, and that isn’t a coincidence.
Amorim has targeted Premier League stars on purpose to make sure new additions arrive ready to hit the ground running next season without needing time to adapt.
If United’s striker search leads them to sign Ollie Watkins, that would continue. In contrast, Sesko’s arrival would buck the trend.

United have been stung before when taking a risk on a young, inexperienced striker – Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles last season are why the Red Devils are even looking for a new centre-forward.
Spending big on Sesko would be another risk for United, but with a more established front line to help integrate the 22-year-old, it is a risk that Ineos might consider to be worthwhile.
