£55m ex-Man United star is at the centre of a transfer disaster and Ineos can now make it worse

Manchester United’s pursuit of Benjamin Sesko this summer could pile more misery onto one former Red Devil.

Fabrizio Romano insists that Manchester United are ‘convinced’ they will sign a striker this summer, despite Ruben Amorim saying he is happy with his squad.

Rasmus Hojlund impressed against West Ham, but Ineos are looking to find the final puzzle piece to their new-look attack.

United have concrete interest in Benjamin Sesko, but to land the 22-year-old striker Ineos would have to beat Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Man United could add to Anthony Elanga’s transfer misery

Earlier this summer, former United star Anthony Elanga joined Newcastle in a £55 million move from Nottingham Forest.

United earned £6m from Anthony Elanga’s move due to a sell-on clause included in his Nottingham Forest move, and now the 23-year-old Carrington graduate can look forward to playing Champions League football in 2025/26.

However, it seems he will be entering the season without Swedish compatriot Alexander Isak after he asked to leave St James’ Park just a few days after Elanga’s arrival.

Not only are the Magpies losing their star player, but United beat Newcastle to Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and they have also missed out on top targets such as Joao Pedro and James Trafford.

This summer’s transfer business has reignited the rivalry with Newcastle, and Ineos have an opportunity to make it even more fiery.

It has been a disastrous window for Eddie Howe’s side, with The Athletic reporting that their search for a striker has taken a “desperate turn” this week. They are ready to go “all-in” for Sesko, but United could once again crush their transfer dreams.

Ineos must beat Newcastle to Benjamin Sesko signing

After Mbeumo and Cunha, United and Newcastle find themselves going head-to-head in the transfer window once again.

Despite having no European football to offer, United have already come out on top over Newcastle in their pursuit of Mbeumo and Cunha.

United’s scouts “love” Sesko and view him as an ideal player for Amorim’s system, and a gentleman’s agreement with RB Leipzig could help Ineos beat Newcastle to his signature.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sesko is available for as little as £65m this summer, but only to a list of “special clubs” who are named in a contract clause.

The transfer expert hinted that United could feature on Sesko’s list, meaning Newcastle may have to pay well over the odds for the Leipzig striker if they want to challenge for his signature.

Newcastle are expected to pocket around £120m from Isak’s sale, giving them more than enough spending power to compete, but ultimately it could come down to who Sesko wants to join more.
