After two years of hope, this could finally be the year Manchester United sign Jadon Sancho.
Of course, with Ed Woodward still at the helm, there is more reason to be pessimistic than optimistic, especially considering the way last summer’s transfer window went.
So why might this year be different for United and Sancho?
The key difference this season is reportedly Borussia Dortmund’s desire to do a deal.
The Telegraph report Dortmund are ‘desperate to sell’, with Sancho’s fee likely to be around £75 million.
At present, it is no more advanced than that, but with United’s season over, now is the time to kick on.
Why would Dortmund be ‘desperate’ to sell?
Dortmund know they missed an opportunity to cash in on Sancho high last summer and his price tag is decreasing due to his contract now only having two years to run. Next summer he will cost even cheaper.
The German club have also been hit by the pandemic and need to sell Sancho to offset some of their losses.
The other key factor is that Sancho has expressed a desire to move on, SportBild report. Dortmund know that it is time up, and with the recent German Cup win, this is the right time to sell the winger.

Three reasons for fans to be hopeful over quick deal
There is a condensed transfer window this summer so don’t expect a wasted first five weeks like in late July and the whole of August 2020.
Secondly, Euro 2020 begins on June 11, and key players at the tournament will want their futures sorted out beforehand. It makes sense for United to tie up a deal in advance, in case Sancho’s price tag soars.
Thirdly, Joel Glazer will hold his first fan forum on June 4. This will go a little more smoothly for him if he can show the owners will invest in the team, instead of just saying it.
The Telegraph maintain Sancho is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s number one transfer target, and now does seem like the right time for him to leave Dortmund for a new challenge.
United need Sancho to take some pressure off Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, and help create more chances for Edinson Cavani.
Each year we get our hopes up, because a deal makes so much sense. This year United have Champions League football, a gap in the team, and Dortmund want to sell. Blowing this opportunity would be unforgivable, but unfortunately we are used to that by now with the way this club is run.
