This summer will not only see Manchester United make some additions to slot directly into the starting line-up, but also bring in wonderkids capable of improving the squad.
The 2024/25 campaign is almost over, with Manchester United sitting 14th in the league, having lost a worst-ever 15 games in the Premier League.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 13 | 34 | 12 | 5 | 17 | 51 | 61 | -10 | 41 | |
| 14 | 34 | 10 | 9 | 15 | 39 | 47 | -8 | 39 | |
| 15 | 34 | 8 | 14 | 12 | 34 | 41 | -7 | 38 |
Due to this record and the squad being seen as far from good enough, United could see at least 10 players permanently exit the club, which will leave Ineos requiring additions to the ranks.
To revamp the squad, United are targeting young talents with Franco Mastantuono tipped as an option to join in August once he turns 18.
Heading into the summer, United are also linked with a move for Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland after his standout campaign has left Old Trafford scouts wowed by his athleticism.
Bellingham won the Championship Young Player of the Season this week for Sunderland, while his teammate Chris Rigg also received an award for his breakout season.

Chris Rigg wins EFL Championship’s apprentice of the year award
Sunderland are in possession of arguably the two most exciting talents currently gracing the Championship. Both have, however, caught the eye of clubs around Europe with United considering a move to sign Bellingham and Rigg.
So after Bellingham won his award, his 17-year-old teammate, Rigg, followed suit by winning an award, which speaks volumes about not only his footballing ability but also his personality.
Rigg has been named the Championship’s apprentice of the season, which is an award that recognises outstanding young players who ‘excel both on and off the pitch’.
By winning this award, Rigg joins Jude Bellingham and Ademola Lookman as notable names to win the award over recent years.
Many Championship experts predict that Rigg will be the next great player to emerge from England’s second tier. Jude Bellingham is often named as a similar player in terms of potential, so this is yet another similarity that can be drawn between the two English midfielders.
Manchester United must seize opportunity around Chris Rigg
Despite his youth, Rigg has been wanted by United for years, stretching all the way back to summer 2023 when the Red Devils rejected the chance to sign him, which is sure to be rued.
Rigg is regarded within United as a ‘generational talent’, which transfer expert Graeme Bailey explained to United in Focus recently. Rigg is consistently compared with legendary midfield players like Roy Keane and Bryan Robson.
With an asking price of just £25m being cited for Rigg, it represents a real market opportunity for United to sign a player who has the promise and potential to be a league leader for the next 15 years.
He is a very special talent, and United must move fast to secure Rigg, or risk missing out, as he will likely make a big summer move, and Jason Wilcox and Co. should be doing everything to make sure it’s to Carrington.
