Former Manchester United defender Lukasz Bejger now wanted in MLS, ‘attractive’ sell-on clause in place

Manchester United have made a habit of selling young players of late but have made sure to put release clauses into many departures.

Breaking through from the Manchester United academy and into the first team is not easy.

Kobbie Mainoo may have made it look pretty simple, but that the reality is that very few will make the grade.

United have shown a real willingness to sell young players who aren’t particularly close to first-team reckoning.

The key is that United keep insetting key clauses into those deals, whether it’s a buy-back clause or a sell-on clause.

That allows United to still have some level of interest in how those young talents develop in the coming years and one prospect could make a big MLS move.

Lukasz Bejger wanted years after Manchester United exit

Defender Lukasz Bejger is the man in question having left United in 2021.

United pounced to sign Bejger from Lech Poznan in 2018 and he featured regularly in the academy ranks.

Come 2021 though, United sold Bejger to Slask Wroclaw as he made a return to Poland after only three years at Old Trafford.

Bejger has really kicked on with that move, racking up 90 appearances in Poland’s top flight.

Now 22, Bejger has been a fixture of the Poland Under-21 side and should now be on the move.

Transfery in Poland report that Bejger is attracting interest around Europe with Dynamo Kyiv attempting a move in August.

Turkish side Bodrum FK and Pafos in Cyprus are also keen on Bejger, who wants to leave Slask in January.

The report adds that a move to Major League Soccer is ‘on the table’ with a big move to the United States potentially in the works.

This will be of interest to United with Transfery previously noting that United have an ‘attractive’ sell-on clause as Bejger’s deal.

No exact percentage is noted but United will be in line to take a chunk of any fee if Bejger does make a move in January.

Manchester United clauses

Bejger’s clause is just one of many United have added up over the years.

One recent deal saw Hannibal Mejbri join Burnley with United inserting a 50% sell-on clause in the deal, which could be very lucrative down the line.

Facundo Pellistri’s move to Panathinaikos also saw United secure a 45% sell-on clause in case the Uruguayan fulfils his potential in Greece.

Maxi Oyedele joined Legia Warsaw with a ‘substantial’ sell-on clause included whilst United have a ‘significant’ sell-on clause on Luton Town’s Teden Mengi.

There are so many more of these clauses with United hoping to bring in money down the line after allowing so many prospects to leave in recent years.
