Will Ederson ever formally be confirmed as a Manchester United player?
It was back at the start of June that Manchester United agreed a fee with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson.
The deal is not yet formally announced. Ederson has been away at the World Cup with Brazil. Their elimination last weekend was expected to speed up the deal.
There is still a chance it gets confirmed this week.
And there are also murmurs it may not go ahead at all. We will break it all down.

Aurelien Tchouameni is set to stay with Real Madrid… So WHO should be Man Utd’s marquee midfield signing?
What are your thoughts on where United turn next?!
Ederson on, or off?
There are conflicting claims about the Ederson deal.
The latest came from Brazilian journalist Felipe Silva of ESPN, who wrote: “The operation for the midfielder Ederson, from Atalanta and the Brazilian national team, is stalled at this moment.”
He did insist that Ederson will undergo the final part of his medical to try and iron out the issues.
Fabrizio Romano reported: “Ederson second part of medical will take place this week in England: Man United want guarantees before signing off the deal with Atalanta.
“All set for €45m since one month ago but waiting on extra medical check next.”
The claims from both suggest that Manchester United are not totally ready to sign off just yet.
Is that routine, or was something spotted in the first part of Ederson’s medical that has prompted the extra caution?
Are we all just reading too much into the daily transfer market soap opera?
The Mail claim: “The situation with Ederson is less clear. Concerns were raised over an initial medical exam, but United have denied rumours that the move may be off and insist the 27-year-old player will go ahead with a full medical. It’s unclear when that will happen.”
It’s hard for Manchester United fans to know exactly what to believe on this, so my advice is simple: Settle down, wait and see, and what will be, will be.
It really is that simple.
What does success for Man Utd look like for you in 2026/27?
While it's early days (we need new signings) – tell us what you think United should be aiming for?
Ederson deal on, great. Ederson deal off, fine
If the Ederson deal goes through then Manchester United have two deals secure, along with the recently agreed £48 million deal to sign Andrey Santos. He also has to undergo his medical.
Signing both players will ensure that United have improved the depth in the midfield – but there is still one elite standout name missing.
With Aurelien Tchouameni off the table, expect United to pursue other targets.
If the Ederson deal falls through too, it’s no disaster. Perhaps it wasn’t meant to be, and United will luck into signing an even better player.
It would unlock the £35 million set aside for him to go back into the pot, with two more midfielders required.
For what it’s worth, I expect this deal will go through. But it would be nice to have some clarity on it. Pre-season starts tomorrow, after all.
