Brazil have been knocked out of the World Cup by Norway. There are implications for Manchester United.

A flat World Cup performance from Brazil saw the wasteful Selecao defeated 2-0 by Erling Haaland’s Norway.

From a Manchester United perspective, it is a result that carries implications for Matheus Cunha, and incoming signing Ederson.

Ederson transfer can now go ahead

Manchester United agreed a fee with Atalanta to sign Ederson, back at the start of June.

This move has been delayed due to Ederson being called up as a late replacement into the Brazil squad.

Fabrizio Romano stated this weekend: “They’re waiting for Ederson to have the second part of his medical with Manchester United in England before approving everything.”

Brazil’s elimination from the World Cup will now speed the transfer along.

Ederson can now fly to England to conduct his medical and seal his transfer. It could be done in days.

The wait had caused some speculation on X whether the deal would still go ahead, fuelled by a lack of activity from United elsewhere.

But the plan remains for the Ederson transfer to go through, and we should see him confirmed as a United player imminently.

They do say, ‘a transfer is now done until the player is pictured holding the shirt’. Expect those pictures shortly.

Ederson and Cunha won’t join pre-season start

Manchester United’s pre-season campaign begins on July 9.

Ederson and Matheus Cunha won’t be taking part, they must complete a FIFA-mandated rest period after the World Cup.

Both players could return for the end of July, and there will be time for them both to get vital preparation and friendly action in before the Premier League season begins on August 22.
