Fabrizio Romano explains how Senne Lammens signing for Man United impacts Andre Onana’s future

Manchester United are set to reshuffle their goalkeeping department if a deal gets finalised for Senne Lammens this summer.

Ruben Amorim publicly defended Altay Bayindir last week after the 27-year-old attracted criticism for conceding to Arsenal in the opening Premier League match.

Despite the error, Bayindir started in net again as Manchester United drew 1-1 with Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

Andre Onana was cleared as fit and available, meaning Amorim simply chose to start Bayindir ahead of the £47 million goalkeeper.

It has led to reports that Onana could be sold this summer, especially as United are currently making a move for Senne Lammens.

How Senne Lammens impacts Andre Onana’s future

United are in advanced talks to sign Lammens for £17 million, with Royal Antwerp choosing to leave him out of their latest league clash to protect him ahead of his proposed move.

Assuming the move for the 23-year-old goes ahead, Ruben Amorim would be left with a very bloated goalkeeping department that includes Lammens, Andre Onana, Bayindir and Tom Heaton.

It feels inevitable that at least one would have to leave to make space, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insists that doesn’t necessarily have to be Onana.

Romano explained that Lammens’ potential arrival doesn’t mean that Onana will leave, suggesting the two shot-stoppers could duel it out for the No.1 spot.

Altay Bayindir may have played his final Man United match

There will be plenty of eyes on Amorim’s starting XI against Grimsby Town on Wednesday night, knowing that whichever goalkeeper is left out could leave before deadline day.

Amid reports of Lammens coming to Manchester, Graeme Bailey told United in Focus that Bayindir is “actively” looking for a new club.

Despite starting against Arsenal and Fulham in the Premier League, it seems as though he may be forced towards the exit to make space for Lammens.

It has been nearly a year since Bayindir’s last clean sheet for United, which came in the 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

Bayindir has a contract until 2027, so United would likely be able to fetch a small fee for him this summer.
