Manchester United are accelerating efforts to sign a new goalkeeper this summer with Ruben Amorim not confident in his options.
Signing a new shot stopper has been always on the agenda all summer for Manchester United after the season Andre Onana had between the sticks.
Over the course of the 2024/25 season, Onana had several howlers in goal, which as expected left plenty of questions around his future. Despite this, Edwin van der Sar backed Onana to improve and urged Ruben Amorim to keep him beyond this summer.
In addition, Onana has had no intention of leaving United which would always have made it difficult to sign a goalkeeper such as Gianluigi Donnarumma or Emi Martinez despite their links to Old Trafford.
But, after Altay Bayindir’s error in goal against Arsenal, it became clear that United needed another option in goal considering none of the three currently at the club would get Amorim’s ultimate approval.
So, now Ineos are advancing in efforts to bring in a new shot stopper.

Manchester United closing in on Senne Lammens deal
Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage, Amorim has admitted Onana is ready to play, although didn’t sound thrilled by the prospect of using the Cameroonian international.
However, this may end up being his final chance to win his boss over, with United closing in on a signing in the position.
On Friday, Fabrizio Romano claimed United had agreed personal terms with Senne Lammens, with the Belgian goalkeeper a target mentioned all summer with United.
Now, following this, Romano has now added that talks between United and Royal Antwerp are well underway over the transfer.
Lammens has already said yes to United and Ineos are discussing a transfer fee which is worth close to €20m or £17.3m, which could turn out to be an absolute bargain.
This transfer looks fairly straightforward and could really advance at any stage over the next few days it would seem.
Manchester United could be signing the new David de Gea
United have been linked with Lammens for a long time, with almost the entirety of 2025 seeing the Belgian linked with a transfer.
However, a deal won’t have been easy, with Man City keen on Lammens along with other lower Premier League clubs. However, Lammens was wowed by links to United which shows how he feels about a possible move.
United in Focus exclusively revealed earlier this summer that United were gearing up to move for Lammens in a £17m move to rival Onana in goal and now it is coming to fruition.
Lammens has been compared with Thibaut Courtois, however, his style of goalkeeping really resembles David de Gea, just with better aerial ability and on the ball quality.
If the deal goes through, Lammens won’t start right away, instead, it is a signing which will likely be with a mind for the future, however, if Onana has another season like last campaign, the Belgian may quickly become key.
