The Ederson transfer saga is set to take another twist after reports of a collapsed deal with Manchester United.
From potentially becoming the first signing of the Michael Carrick era, to likely not arriving at Man Utd at all, Ederson has had a whirlwind week.
A deal that was talked up as a formality by the player himself has likely collapsed due to medical concerns, leaving him in limbo.
Atalanta are now taking a new step with the player to send Man Utd a message.

What is your REACTION to the claims that Manchester United’s deal for Ederson is now OFF…?

Ederson transfer update latest
Whenever a deal collapses at the medical stage, it is bound to cause some strife between the selling club and the buying club.
Atalanta would have already accounted for the money coming for Ederson, especially since he was in the last year of his contract.
They are reportedly still convinced that United are trying to back out of the deal despite the Brazilian being fully fit and ready to go.
Fabrizio Romano has shared that the Serie A outfit are not ready to hammer home that fact by offering Ederson a new contract.
He said: “From next week, Atalanta will try to meet with the agents of Ederson to offer him a new contract. They are happy to have him back as they believe he’s a top midfielder and is fully fit.
“They want to show their trust in the player despite Man Utd deciding against doing a deal a few days ago.
“Ederson has plenty of opportunities. He can talk to other clubs for a free transfer from January, but that is the position of Atalanta.”
Man Utd end busy week with Mason Greenwood decision
While United are rescinding their offer for Ederson, Romano also shared that the club faced a hectic week of decision-making in other deals as well.
WHO should Manchester United sign instead if the deal for Ederson has COLLAPSED?
Mason Greenwood is on his way to Fenerbahce, and United are entitled to a percentage of the fee from the sale.
However, Romano said that United also had a buy-back clause for the player, where they could match Fenerbahce’s offer for the forward, and it had to be accepted instead of a bidding war.
To nobody’s surprise, United rejected the chance to do so, leaving Greenwood free to negotiate with the Turkish club.
It remains to be seen how much money United receive from his sale, but with this income, plus the money saved on Ederson, Ineos need to make a big splash in the market soon.
