Manchester United are closing in on the signing of forward Joshua Zirkzee from Serie A side Bologna.

Following moves for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana and Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United are looking to Italy for a new signing once again.

Manchester United’s interest in Joshua Zirkzee was first reported back in December via German outlet Sport1.

Now, after accelerated links in recent weeks, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Manchester United are now close to a deal being finalised for Zirkzee.

Joshua Zirkzee close to Manchester United move

The Dutch press have also been providing updates on Joshua Zirkzee’s impending move to Manchester United, shedding some light on the timeframe.

Voetbal International reports Joshua Zirkzee to Manchester United will become official once Netherlands involvement at Euro 2024 is over.

The Dutch national team have reached the semi-finals, with Zirkzee actually making his Netherlands debut in the quarter-finals, coming off the bench against Turkey.

The quarter-final will take place on July 10, with Netherlands taking on England.

Manchester United’s England stars Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw can speed Zirkzee’s deal along by knocking them out.

Failing this, the final takes place on July 14.

Zirkzee could wrap up his United move straight after the tournament before completing his holiday/FIFA mandated rest period.

And with a possible elimination for the Dutch around the corner, it’s possible Zirkzee could be a Manchester United player by the end of the week.

Talks are nearing completion over the financial side of the arrangement with the player and his agent. United must then activate Zirkzee’s release clause.

Zirkzee will make Manchester United’s attack more unpredictable, helping out forward Rasmus Hojlund, following Anthony Martial’s release.

Joshua Zirkzee situation also relevant to Matthijs de Ligt

Joshua Zirkzee is not the only Netherlands player Manchester United are looking to sign.

Manchester United are also keen on signing centre-back Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.

De Ligt’s move to Manchester United will also be on hold until Netherlands’ elimination from the Euros.

So there are two potentially imminent moves on the horizon to kickstart United’s summer. We just need a tiny bit more patience to see them come to fruition.
