Ederson is signing for United as a squad player, which means that he will be backing up Kobbie Mainoo and another expected first-choice midfielder yet to arrive, potentially Aurelien Tchouameni.
Now, Ben Jacobs has told The United Stand that United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, has decided who should be the marquee signing.
The journalist has claimed that United’s reported interest in Tchouameni is being driven by Vivell this summer.
Obviously, the recruitment department has to agree with every target before they are properly pushed for, but Tchouameni is one Vivell is advocating for.
This is good for United because Vivell tends to get his way, as evidenced with Benjamin Sesko.

Tchouameni would be a strong signing for Manchester United
With Ederson looking like a done deal, United’s attentions will soon be directed toward the second midfield addition of the summer.
This will probably be Fernandes, with the West Ham midfielder available for a cheaper fee after relegation. It is expected United need to spend £50-60m to sign Fernandes this summer.
After this, Tchouameni is probably the best move United could make for that marquee addition.
Tchouameni is the perfect Casemiro replacement, and would be the next best scenario for United after missing out on Elliot Anderson.
Tchouameni and Ederson as the two more defensive midfielders, then Mainoo and Fernandes on the other side, is incredible depth and a title-winning pairing.
