Manchester United simply need an attacker this January – but as the window ticks shut, it’s looking increasingly unlikely.
Despite an abundance of links this January, Mathys Tel is now heading to Tottenham Hotspur, with Spurs sanctioning a loan for the French striker.
Manchester United weren’t fans of a loan deal for Tel, which means they now need to look elsewhere, but options are scarce.
Christopher Nkunku is staying at Chelsea, whilst Leon Bailey now looks unlikely. Not good.
Whilst United keep missing out on their targets, Premier League clubs are making deals happen. That includes Brighton & Hove Albion, who have nicked a January target for the Red Devils.

Brighton sign Man Utd-linked Stefanos Tzimas
Manchester United were reportedly interested in Stefanos Tzimas this January, but he will instead be joining Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion from Nuremberg for £20.8m (25m euros).
The Greece Under-21 international signed a contract until June 2030 for the Seagulls but will remain in Germany with Nuremberg for the second half of the season.
“Stefanos is an exceptional young talent, an out-and-out centre-forward with a natural ability to score goals,” said Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on Tzimas. “He will join up with us in the summer, ahead of next season.”
Tzimas joined Nuremberg from PAOK in the summer on loan, in a move that included an option to buy. Nuremberg have activated that option before sanctioning his move to Brighton.
Tzimas was also linked to Liverpool and Arsenal, but Brighton is his chosen destination. Yet another forward Manchester United won’t be signing this January.
Evan Ferguson heads to West Ham
Evan Ferguson is also a forward linked to Manchester United previously. He hasn’t been getting game time at Brighton this season, which is why he’s forced a move to West Ham.
The Irish forward links up with David Moyes at the London Stadium on loan until the end of the 24/25 season.
Brighton are receiving a significant loan fee for the player and the Hammers will cover his wages. There is no option or obligation for West Ham to sign Ferguson.
Ferguson could have been an option for United. Alas, they remain attacker-less in this window, and the clock is well and truly ticking.
