Manchester United are still in the market for attackers in the January transfer window.
With the departures of Marcus Rashford and Antony, Ruben Amorim is short of forwards at Manchester United.
But with little cash, a loan deal looks like the best option – which is why the Red Devils have been linked to Mathys Tel.
Now, however, it appears Tel isn’t Old Trafford-bound. He’s heading to a Premier League rival instead.

Mathys Tel is Tottenham-bound
Fabrizio Romano uttered the three words ‘here we go’ on Monday afternoon, confirming that Tel would be joining Tottenham Hotspur and not Manchester United.
Tel will be joining Tottenham on loan, with no option to buy.
Tel’s agent posted an image on Instagram boarding a private plane heading for London. The 19-year-old has now landed at Farnborough Airport ahead of his move.
Manchester United now must look elsewhere for a forward – which could be an issue given the current market.
Amorim evidently doesn’t trust Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee, as shown by Kobbie Mainoo at striker on Sunday – so who do they go for next?
That remains to be seen, but it’s a shame United miss out on Tel, particularly given the high praise he’s received in the past.
Quotes on Mathys Tel
Manchester United have missed out on a gem who has been lauded by the likes of Thomas Muller and Thomas Tuchel, via Bundesliga’s website.
Thomas Müller
“You can see that he wants to score goals – that’s a great quality. Thinking back to when Arjen Robben was playing, we used to think he should have been looking for the pass, but he was so focused on scoring and he scored a lot. Mathys should keep doing his thing: firing shots in on goal. He’s a superb finisher.”
Vincent Kompany
“Mathys is doing an outstanding job and that’s why he keeps getting his chance at Bayern Munich. He’s a young player for the future and he just has to keep going.”
Thomas Tuchel
“He’s only 18 and is making the most of it at the moment. He’s always positive, always has a smile on his face and has great finishing in training and in matches.”
Julian Nagelsmann
“He’s a very young, talented player who can play different positions… he’s very quick, strong with his body. He’s good at defending the ball with his back towards the opponent’s goal… I have the vision that he could score 40 goals [in a season like Robert Lewandowski] one day in the future.”
