Manchester United and England icon Wayne Rooney has now lifted the veil on one core memory involving former manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney spent the first part of his legendary playing career at Manchester United under the watchful eye of fellow Red Devils legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

Man Utd’s all-time leading scorer was only a teenager when the Red Devils struck up a stunning deal worth up to £27m to sign him from Everton in 2004.

Rooney was a core part of the Red Devils attacking set-up under Ferguson until the 84-year-old former Aberdeen and United manager retired from football in 2013.

Man Utd icon Wayne Rooney says one Sir Alex Ferguson dressing room interaction played out in the exact opposite way

Wayne Rooney recalled a Manchester United match against Tottenham in 2009, where the Red Devils went into half-time 2-0 down at Old Trafford.

Darren Bent opened the scoring against United in the 29th minute before Luka Modric doubled Spurs’ advantage only three minutes later in the encounter.

Rooney admitted that he expected Sir Alex Ferguson to drop one of his infamous ‘hairdryer treatments’ on the players at half-time, but the Scotsman didn’t do that.

The 40-year-old former Man Utd striker revealed that Ferguson was “very positive” and motivated the deflated Red Devils players with a spine-tingling message.

Speaking on a Reddit ‘AMA,’ Rooney said: “The best one at half-time was when we played Tottenham for Manchester United at Old Trafford, and we were 2-0 down at half-time, and we went in and we thought the manager, Alex Ferguson, was going to, you know, go mad and have a go at us all.

“But he was very positive and reminded us how good of [sic] a team we were, how good we were as players individually.”

Wayne Rooney’s memory with Sir Alex Ferguson showed that Man Utd bounced back in a major way in the match

Following United’s return to the pitch in the second half of the clash, the Red Devils completed a sensational Premier League comeback against Tottenham.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Rooney both scored braces and Dimitar Berbatov netted against his former side to ensure United’s 5-2 win at Old Trafford.

“If we go out there right from the first whistle of the second half and apply pressure on Tottenham, they would tire, they would cave in, and we’d win the game,” Rooney added.

“And I think in the end, if I’m not mistaken, we won the game 5-2, so I think that was the best one.”

United would win the Premier League trophy in the 2008-09 season after the Red Devils finished four points clear of Liverpool in the title race.
