Manchester United finally paid back the loyal fans at Old Trafford with a comeback for the ages as they beat Lyon to progress to the Europa League semifinals.

United’s 5-4 win against Lyon shouldn’t have been that exciting, but simple is just not how this current side does things.

There were plenty of positives to take from such an adrenaline-driven win, from Manuel Ugarte’s monster display to Harry Maguire being the epitome of a team player.

However, the biggest winner from the game were two players who didn’t even play. They’re set for a breakout now.

It’s often hard to pick a single, or even two names when the win is of this magnitude but the big-picture scenario is clear after this game.

United stand three steps away from glory which would transform the whole optics of this season, much like the FA Cup win did last season.

Only this time, Champions League qualification is at stake so the prize is even better.

It was understandable, therefore, that Amorim said he’ll take risks in the league going forwards, eager to protect his first-choice squad for the Europa League which is all that matters.

That is great news for two players who have seemed like they are on the cusp of a breakout forever but it never came.

Godwill Kukonki and Jack Moorhouse made the bench against Lyon as well but once again failed to come off it but this win might leave Amorim with no choice but to give them a chance.

Moorhouse has been on cusp of a United breakout for a while now due to his perfect skill set but Amorim has been reluctant to throw him into a dysfunctional mess.

The same goes for Kukonki, Amorim’s first favourite at Old Trafford although he’s more undercooked than Moorhouse who looks ready.

Either way, the remaining six Premier League games are a free hit for the club. In fact, the only way to inject some excitement for those fixtures is by unleashing some debutants.

A balance still needs to be maintained because the youngsters can hit a wall in their development if given too much too soon but the circumstances have aligned.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if United end the season with some new first-team players based on these six league games domestically.

Kukonki and Moorhouse will probably top that list.
