Manchester United have now beaten Liverpool twice in the same season, and it feels good.
You could even argue that United beat Liverpool twice in the same game at Old Trafford. After taking a 2-0 lead, we inexplicably allowed them back in it – before Kobbie Mainoo sent the crowd wild again with a second half winner.
The 3-2 win featured goals from Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Kobbie Mainoo, three players who were outstanding.
Ayden Heaven and Harry Maguire were excellent at the back too.
But there were some slightly disappointing performances mixed in too, and we are going to work through them below…
WHO was Manchester United’s man of the match vs Liverpool?
Senne Lammens
Something strange happened in the second half. Senne Lammens made a mistake.
It was the first time Senne Lammens had made an error in a Manchester United shirt, and let’s be realistic, it probably won’t be the last either. That’s the life of a goalkeeper.
What is important is that these moments are rare.
What was so impressive about the goalkeeper was that he showed no ill-effects of his misplaced pass that gave away Liverpool’s second goal.
He continued to look confident with the ball at his feet, and made a crucial save too when the score was 2-2.
As unsettling as it was to see him make an error, there’s nothing to worry about here.
It was also important United went on and won it, so that Lammens’ error was not a costly one.

Amad
It is fair to be a little concerned about Amad. He is off form and is capable of more than he’s currently bringing to the table.
Amad has not scored a single goal in 2026, and he didn’t look close to making any kind of offensive impact against Liverpool.
Is it just a case of being off form? Is he lacking confidence? Amad was actually more effective when he was playing at wing-back than winger.
He gave the ball away in the lead up to Liverpool’s first goal, which summed up his misfortune at the moment.
Perhaps he can find some form at the World Cup with Ivory Coast.
After doing the DOUBLE over Liverpool for the first time in a decade, how confident are you United will do it again NEXT SEASON?
Bryan Mbeumo
United are a better team when Bryan Mbeumo is involved, but this is not the same fresh, dynamic player we saw at the start of the season.
Similar to Amad, perhaps there’s an element of tiredness from his spell away at AFCON mid-season.
Unlike Amad, he will get a break this summer with Cameroon failing to qualify for the World Cup.
Mbeumo did work hard but nothing is falling for him at the moment. He had two shots that both missed the target, and he has not scored since the start of February.
He moved up front after Sesko was substituted with injury, and the change was noticeable, with Mbeumo unable to provide the same focal point.
Patrick Dorgu
We will put this one down to rustiness.
Patrick Dorgu was making his first start since January, and you could tell.
He only managed seven touches in 15 minutes and blew his big opportunity when he was put through on goal on the counter attack.
Don’t judge anything about Dorgu on this game. It was about getting up to speed in an intense fixture, and he will be better for this brief appearance.
