“He’s top, top, top player,” he said on The Rest Is Football podcast.
“The manager’s played him in the right position, and he’s shining. And even when United weren’t doing great, he always stepped up with something, you know.
“I know we’ve talked about him being petulant with his swinging of the arms, and it’s not, especially as a young player coming into the squad, you know, sometimes he makes a pass, he’s made a mistake and he’s got his hands up and he’s passionate and I get all that stuff.
“But what that does, Gaz [Gary Lineker], it brings attention to somebody else because he can get away with it because he’s so good. That’s what, you know.”

However, one thing that the United legend has established is that Amorim’s successor must be ready to play Bruno Fernandes in the No 10 role in the team.
