Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Lyon on Thursday may have just sealed the fate of one player this summer.
It will be all to play for next week at Old Trafford, after the first leg of the Europa League quarter final ended all square in France. It was a performance which deserved more and Ruben Amorim will feel his side owed him more from the game as he coached a win.

Lyon barely troubled Manchester United in the game, but it ultimately came down to a couple of errors from Andre Onana, which decided the game and gave Lyon an undeserved 2-2 draw.
Leny Yoro was among United’s very best players, as he scored his first goal for the club. However, Rasmus Hojlund was awful as Joshua Zirkzee showed him up off the bench.
Amorim will be increasingly happy with his United team and the performances, with clear improvements and patterns of play on display. However, he won’t be happy with individuals letting him down.
Now, the head coach has no choice but to take drastic action over one player.

Ruben Amorim must now drop Andre Onana for Altay Bayindir
After United drew with Lyon, Amorim was asked about Onana’s blunder in goal, with the 40-year-old defending his goalkeeper. He did, however that he needed to take time before speaking to the goalkeeper to avoid saying the wrong thing.
On MUTV, David May was less understanding as he labelled Onana ‘shambolic‘, which was putting it kindly considering how poor the Cameroonian shot stopper was during his 35 touch display over in France.
In the draw, Onana prevented -0.72 goals, making him directly responsible arguably for both the Lyon goals but particularly the first from Thiago Almada.
Due to this, next week at Old Trafford, or even this weekend against Newcastle, it is time for Amorim to drop Onana and instead start Altay Bayindir.

Onana has had all season, yet dropped clanger after clanger, so it wouldn’t be premature to give Bayindir the chance to start instead, especially after such a terrible performance in United’s biggest game of the season.
Bayindir had impressed earlier this season, and now he is back, Amorim will surely lean toward giving him a go as number one at United. It could hardly get any worse.
Altay Bayindir vs Andre Onana this season for Manchester United
This season, Onana has had the occasional excellent moment, but more often than not, he has been utterly horrendous in goal, costing United time after time.
Meanwhile, Bayindir has been usually reliable when Amorim has called upon. When comparing the pair, particularly in the Europa League, it is clear that the Turkish goalkeeper should start next week.
| Bayindir | Stats | Onana |
| 2 | Games | 9 |
| 1 | Goals against | 12 |
| 1 | Clean sheets | 1 |
| 90% | Save percentage | 71.4% |
Regardless of whether Onana is a better keeper or not, there is just no way he should be starting after the performance he put in on Thursday night.
Fans have called for Bayindir to replace Onana before, and with the Turkey international back from injury, now is the perfect time for him to do so.
